GOLD PLATED JEWELRY
Plated jewelry is made of a thin layer of gold or silver (0.5%) electroplated over brass or copper.Brazil Jewelry, although plated, is made from high coverage 18k gold that looks and wears like solid gold.The majority of our gold plated selection is made with a stainless steel base rather than brass.
Care: Tarnish will accelerate when exposed to water, high humidity, and an acidic skin PH. Skin lotions, sunscreen, perfume, and hairspray can all also promote tarnishing. After removing your jewelry, run a clean dry cloth over each piece to remove the day.
GOLD VERMEIL JEWELRY
Gold vermeil jewelry is made of a thick layer of gold (2.5 microns) electroplated over sterling (.925) silver. Vermeil is more hypoallergenic and has a thicker layer of gold than normal gold plating.Care: Tarnish will accelerate when exposed to water, high humidity, and an acidic skin PH. Skin lotions, sunscreen, perfume, and hairspray can all also promote tarnishing. After removing your jewelry, run a clean dry cloth over each piece to remove the day.
14K GOLD FILLED JEWELRY
Gold filled is second only to solid gold in terms of quality and is the best affordable option when it comes to durability and longevity. The outer layer is made of entirely 14k gold that is pressure-bonded to the brass base metal and contains at least 5% gold by weight.Gold filled is safe for most sensitive skin types.
Gold-filled jewelry often requires very low maintenance. Gold-fill pieces are more durable than plating or vermeil, but will still need some TLC over time. We still recommend against prolonged contact with lotions, oils, perfumes, or ocean/pool water. This can dull your pieces and reduce their shine over time.
14K SOLID GOLD JEWELRY
Solid gold pieces are made of 14k gold. 14k gold is about 58% gold and 42% other metals. This is the most common gold selection due to its durability.The particular mixture of metals gives gold alloy its own hue and tone, which can vary slightly. Solid gold pieces are ideal for piercing, as they can help avoid infection and irritation, and won't degrade over time even in water.
Solid gold is a safe bet if you have allergies or sensitivities to other metals.
Solid gold is durable and tarnish-resistant.
STERLING SILVER JEWELRY
Sterling silver jewelry is made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. We dip our sterling jewelry in rhodium, a highly durable precious metal, which gives it extra shine and longevity.If you have a known allergy to silver, rhodium, or copper, please be aware when purchasing sterling silver jewelry.

To increase the longevity of your pieces, we recommend removing your jewelry before showering.
All metals can be cleaned regularly with lukewarm water and diluted baby shampoo. For your more durable pieces, mild dish soap can also be used. Please rinse thoroughly. Wipe off gently with a soft cloth, Pat dry, and then lay out to fully dry before wearing or storing your jewelry.

While gold fill has an outer layer of 5-10% 14k gold over brass, it still contains brass as a base metal and skin highly sensitive to brass may be affected. For these customers, we recommend sterling silver, gold vermeil, or solid gold jewelry. All of our pieces are nickel- and lead-free.
GOOD TO KNOW
The pH of your skin may react to metal jewelry. Not getting enough water? In a humid environment? Put a little extra lotion on? Even high-quality metal jewelry can sometimes leave a green tint when the metals react with the acidity of your skin. It can also be caused by other substances on your skin, such as lotions, oils, or perfumes.
Luckily, this tint is completely harmless. An easy way to remove this is to apply rubbing alcohol or makeup remover to a cotton pad and gently wipe down the affected area on your skin.
Gold jewelry may vary slightly in color. This is because, unless it is 24k (meaning 100% gold), it’s a mixture of gold and other metals (called gold alloy). 24k solid gold is quite soft and can easily dent and scratch, making it less durable for everyday use. 14k gold is 14/24 or about 58% gold, and about 42% other metals - this is the most common gold selection due to its durability.
